He was the son of James P. and Mattie "Pat" Ferguson Gordin. He married Maggie Virginia Alderman from Dixon.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Dye, Haughton, Louisiana; and two sons; Alfred R. Gordin, Memphis, Tennessee; Earl R. Gordin, Monroe, Louisiana; and nine grandchildren.
