The state of Mississippi authorized a census for all counties in 1841. I don't know why they wanted one immediately after the 1840
federal census. The census for Copiah County was conducted by Marcellus J. Howard and lists the name of each head of household as well as the number of males and females living in each house.
This census was difficult to transcribe because the author used a fancy handwriting with lots of loops and swirls. In addition the bottom half of each microfilm page is dark and has random smudges. In
case of any doubt, reference should be made to the original microfilm roll 2528 located in the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in Jackson, Mississippi.
