Was committed to the jail of Lawrence County, Mississippi on the 27th August 1839 by Jesse Maxwell, J.P. as a runaway, a negro man by the name of George; about 26 years of age, stout made, five feet ten inches high, some scars on his breast and back, had on when committed a pair of course pantaloons and cotton shirt, and a large iron around his neck.  George says he belongs to John Brown, near Fort Adams on the river.  Says he ran away about one month ago.  The owner of the above negro is requested to comply with the law and take him away.
