DeSoto's Confederate Dead

In 1866 the DeSoto County newspaper, People's Press, printed a series of articles listing the men from DeSoto County who had died in the recent war. While the list is not complete, it is a valuable source of information. The names were submitted by those who had served in a given company or regiment during the war and who felt obligated to recall their comrades who had lost their lives in the "Lost Cause." Some names were printed more than once.

I have attempted to add company designations where these could be identified. Additionally, some men were listed as having served in Company G, 18th Infantry. However, the official compiled service records list them as having served in Company G, 18th Cavalry. Likewise, on a few names either the first name or surname was missing and I have tried to supply this information using the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System of the U.S. National Park Service. The source listed is PP (People's Press) with the date of issue.
