Spanish American War

MEN IN THE 155TH REGIMENT


        The First Regiment Mississippi Volunteer Infantry consisted of ten companies. It was mustered in at Camp Port Henry and left for the United States Army Camp at Chickamauga Port in May, 1898. Its colonel was George M. Gova; Lieutenant Col. H. O. Williams.

NAMES OF ENLISTED MEN FROM LAMAR COUNTY


1. B. C. D'ARCY: 1st Miss. Regiment Co. L. Private. No battles.

2. C. H. RICH: 1st Volunteer Co., served in Florida and Cuba.

3. CHARLIE EVERS: Now in insane asylum; no information could be gotten.

4. HOMER JONES: Enlisted in Florida and was paid $340 for 40 days service. This sum was paid to all soldiers who enlisted from that state.

5. CORPORAL SAMUEL T. SHELTON: private, Infantry Volunteers, enlisted August 19th, 1899. Discharged June 30, 1908. Served in Cuba.

Lamar County has no record of Mexican War, War of 1812 and Revolutionary War.
