New Hope Union Church

By Martha Fant

This Union Church was located near the community of Marianna which is approximately ten miles Southwest of Holly Springs, Marshall Co. MS. An indenture was made and entered into by J. E. Woods of the first part and H. P. Parrish and others of the second part, January 10, 1896. The deed is recorded in Marshall County Deed Book #60, page 413. This certain parcel of land was donated for the purpose of erecting a house for school and church services for the neighborhood. It was agreed and understood that any of the denominations known as Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, both Missionary and Hard Shell, could hold services in said house when ever it suited them and it did not interfere with school. The description of the parcel is as follows:

Commencing on the section line between S22 and S15, T4, R4West about 30 yards west of the church at a large hickory, thence due north about 45 yards, thence east to the Memphis-Chulahoma Road, on line with said road east and south to the section line, thence west on section line, to the beginning containing about 6/10 of an acre.

This Union Church is no longer in existence.
