Mrs. Johnson, 86, of DeKalb, died Friday, March 29, 2002, in DeKalb. 
 

She was a native of Wahalak and a member of Scooba Baptist Church. 
 

Survivors include her four sons, James William Johnson and his wife Tommie Lou of Port Charlotte Fla., Neely Vaughn Johnson and his wife Martha Ann of Scooba, Glenn Ray Johnson of Bay St. Louis, and Terry Jack Johnson and his wife Lisa of Pinola Ala.; three sisters, Jewell Stegall of Lauderdale, Annie Lois Hutcherson of Geiger, Ala., and Doris Britton of Eutaw Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Pamela Rhett of Nashville, Tenn., Angela Williamson of Atlanta, Christie Keyser of Port Charlotte, Fla., James Johnson Jr. of Tocoa, Ga., Neely R. Johnson of Scooba, Lacey Dean and Amanda Thomas of Huntsville, Ala., Christopher Johnson and Curtis Ray Johnson of Kennedy, Ala., and Stacey McNeil of Louin; and eight great grandchildren, Jordan Rhett, Benjamin Rhett, Claudia Rhett, Amanda Dean, Sarah Thomas, Mary Neely Thomas, Abby Grace McNeil and Tate McNeil. 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Neely Johnson Jr.; one brother, Willard Vaughn; and parents, Chester and Annie Vaughn. 
 

Visitation will be today from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. 
 

Pallbearers will be Otis Hutcherson, Henry Warren, Johnny Harpole, Tony Adkins, Ronnie Britton, David Vaughn and Thomas Clay Williams.

Mrs. Brown, 90, of Jackson, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. She was a retired sales lady with the Lerner Shop in Meridian. 
 

Mrs. Brown was born in Wayne County, the daughter of the late William Cicero Dyess and Sarah Frances Gandy Dyess. She was a longtime resident of Meridian and moved to the Jackson area in 1987. 
 

She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. 
 

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Young and her husband Robert of Jackson; three grandchildren, Renee Fleming and her husband Eric of Thomasville, Ala., Rob Young and his wife Ginny of Madison, Randy Young and his wife Melody of Ridgeland; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Young of Madison, Denton and David Young of Ridgeland. 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ellis Brown, who died in 1952; one daughter, Alma Virginia Brown who died in 1943; and a great-grandson, Robert Ronald Young III who died in 2000. 
 

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Madison. 
 

Visitation will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Wallace.

Mrs. Fick, 85, of Decatur, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Brighton Nursing Home in San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of Decatur United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and Kappa Kappa Ioda. Mrs. Fick was a music teacher for Meridian Public Schools. 
 

Survivors include a son, Leonard Fick and his wife, Tammy, of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Christopher and Robby Fick; two brothers, Hobart Wilcox of Atlanta and Charles Wilcox of Pana, Ill. 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Fick.

Mr. Walters, 74, of Newton, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was an active member of Newton United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Mr. Walters retired from the Newton Company after 43 years of service. He was a member of Newton County Gideon Association. His wife, Evelyn, said: "Mr. Walters gave his life sharing God and his love with others. He was a perfect Christian." 
 

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Walters of Newton; a daughter, Shelia Boutwell and her husband, Raymond, of Brookhaven; a son, Bill Walters of Houston, Texas; a brother, Loyd Walters of Brandon; and three grandchildren.

SAM WILKINSON

Services for Sam Wilkinson will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Carmel Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Sanders, his brother-in-law, Davey Wilkinson and David Wilkinson, his cousins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 
 

Mr. Wilkinson, 62, of Buchanan, Ga., died Monday, April 1, 2002, at the Veteran's Hospital in Decatur, Ga. He was a brick mason for 45 years and a 1957 graduate of Vimville High School. 
 

His family was a charter member of Carmel Baptist Church in Meridian. At the age of 11, he received his first lesson in brick laying from his father, Thornell Wilkinson, on this church. He was a member and clerk at Salem Baptist Church in Buchanan. 
 

Mr. Wilkinson received the Award of Merit from the Masonry Association of Georgia for brick work on buildings less than $500,000. He was the superintendent for block work on the Georgia Dome, Wayco College and Arbor Mall in Douglasville, Ga. 
 

Recently, he worked as a security guard for the Atlanta Motor Speedway NASCAR Division and at Talladega Speedway. He also enjoyed volunteering his services as a brick mason to churches. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Sanders Wilkinson of Buchanan; daughters, Amanda Rutledge, Gwen Haugewood and her husband, Johnny, and a son, Chet Wilkinson, all of Meridian; a stepson, Darell Moss and his wife, Diane; three grandchildren, Michelle McMullan, Olivia Miller and her husband, Justin, and Samantha Moss; a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Miller; sisters, Janell McMullen and her husband, the Rev. Albert McMullen, his twin sister, Sandra Vick and her husband, Ben, all of Meridian; a brother, J.T. Wilkinson and his wife, Beth Gower Wilkinson, of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. 
 

He was preceded in death by his father, Thornell Wilkinson; his mother, Edna Gully Wilkinson; and a brother, Blake Wilkinson. His mother, Edna, was an employee of The Meridian Star for 30 years. 
 

Pallbearers will be his cousins, Demar, Doyce, David, Joe, Bill and Billy Wilkinson; Buster Phillips, Richard Gully and Eddie Humphrey. 
 

Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Lovitt, 75, of Pachuta, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Guardian Angel Hospice. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

The Rev. Simmons, 89, of Decatur, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at his home. He was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Louin and was the son of Sudie Simmons. He taught school at East Central Community College and served as pastor to several local Baptist churches in the area. 
 

Rev. Simmons graduated Mississippi College, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of Alabama. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Molly Simmons of Decatur; two daughters, Nancy Jo Self and her husband, David, of Birmingham, Ala.; and Judi Valentine and her husband, Butch, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a step-son, George Hayes and his wife, Lynn, of Decatur; two sisters, Dean Morgan and Cleo Smith, both of Bay Springs; three brothers, Cleston Simmons of Meridian; Lowry Simmons of Pensacola, Fla.; and Brad Simmons of Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Snowden, 94, of Meridian, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Meridian for 71 years, a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the church's choir and WMU. 
 

Mrs. Snowden was a member and officer of Colonial Order of The Crown, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the National Society of Colonial Dames of XVII Century, the most noble order of the garter, Americans of Royal Descent, the Auxiliary of American Legion, and the Auxiliary of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. 
 

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Leland B. Snowden Sr. of Meridian; a daughter, Sandra S. Kellogg, of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Leland B. Snowden Jr. and his wife, Patti, of Benton, Ark.; three grandchildren, Thomas W. Goldman III, of Menton, France, Capt. Michael W. Goldman, of San Angelo, Texas, and Lee Burke Snowden, of Bryant, Ark.; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 
 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clay Rutledge and Mattie Elizabeth Hill.

Mr. Taylor, 75, of Ridgeland, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at St. Dominic's in Jackson. He was a member of Decatur United Methodist Church, the Evergreen Lodge, where he served as grandmaster for five years, and Lodge No. 77. 
 

Mr. Taylor served in World War II as a medic, was a founder of Newton County Academy and was active in building the school. He owned and operated Taylor Grocery in Decatur for 22 years, then worked for Lazy-Boy until he retired. 
 

He was a wonderful husband and father, very devoted to his wife and daughter and he loved life, friends and the outdoors. After retiring, he traveled extensively with his wife, "Dot." The two were married for 56 years. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Taylor, and a daughter, Jeana Taylor, both of Ridgeland; a brother, Wilson Taylor of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews. 
 

The family requests memorials be made to Parkway Hills United Methodist Church in Madison, at P.O. Box 1727, Madison, MS 39130.
