MILDRED LOUISE SWANNER Homemaker QUITMAN -- Graveside services for Mildred Louise Swanner will be held today at noon at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clarke County with the Rev. Keith Boggan officiating. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Swanner, 72, of Griffin, Ga., died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Sunridge of Griffin in Griffin, Ga. Survivors include four sons, Darrell Gilbert and Warren Gilbert, both of Picayune, Terry Wayne Swanner of Griffin and Linnie Lynn Jerome Swanner I of Lena, Ark.; a daughter, Annette C. Becker of Freeport, Texas; two brothers, Dan Paul Goldman and Albert Taylor, both of Quitman; a sister, Fay McRaney of Quitman; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; and a great-aunt, Elsie White of Bastrop, La. 

CAROLYN SUE COOMBS Retired registered nurse Services for Carolyn Sue Coombs will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bob Wilkinson and Douglas Stone officiating. Guest speaker will be Austin Bishop. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Coombs, 62, of Meridian, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God. She retired from Rush Foundation Hospital after more than 18 years of service. Survivors include her husband, Wesley Coombs of Meridian; a daughter, Lorene Denise Smith of Atlanta; her mother, Opal Burrage and a sister, Linda Fay Potate, both of Meridian; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Burrage. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Pallbearers will be her nephews and friends. Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home. 

MARVIN DL SMITH Retired theatre manager Services for Marvin DL Smith will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jeff Hancock and James K. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. Smith, 83, of Meridian, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was born in Lafayette County, Ala., on May 5, 1919, and grew up in Lanett, Ala. He was a member of the First Church of God and enjoyed serving his church. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Smith was the manager of the Temple Theatre in Meridian until it closed. He then moved with his company and opened the new Village Cinema in the Village Fair Mall in Meridian. He retired in January 1983. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Louise Tomerlin Smith; two sisters, Frances Firestone of Athens, Ala., and Merle Gilbert and her husband, Lloyd, of Anderson, Ind.; a brother, James Smith and his wife, Joann, of Phenix City, Ala.; and a daughter-in-law, Anne Smith, of Crystal Springs. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Marvin Smith; his parents, Dexter Lee and Eula Mae Smith; and a brother, Herman Smith. Pallbearers will be Leslie Anderson, Bobby Boyette, Tony Davidson, Marvin McNail, Rick Milling, Richard Prescott, Eddie Wright and Farris Wright. Memorials may be made to First Church of God building fund. Visitation will be today 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home. 

BELINDA FAYE HOLLINGSWORTH DRODDY UNION -- Services were held for Belinda Faye Hollingsworth Droddy on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy McDill officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Droddy, 50, of Elizabeth, La., died Friday, June 21, 2002, in her home. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Wayne Droddy, of Elizabeth; two sons, Christopher David Boney and Kevin Bryce Boney and a daughter, Brittany Blaire Boney, all of Quitman; one step-son, Jeremy Droddy of Elizabeth, La., her parents, Tom and Sue Hollingsworth of Collinsville; three sisters, Shelia Tucker of Meridian, Karen White of Little Rock and Kay Evans of Newton; a brother, Jeff Hollingsworth of Collinsville; three grandchildren, Jeremy Boney, Brook Boney and Dekota Boney, all of Quitman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a step-son, Terry Droddy of Elizabeth.

Survivors include two daughters, Leda Roberts and her husband, Ken, of McMinnville, Tenn., Marilyn Cooksey and her husband, Glenn, of Spring City, Tenn.; four grandsons, Michael and Alan Roberts, and Chris and Scott Cooksey; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the retired minister of Altare Baptist Church in Newton. Survivors include his wife, Bemie Hunter of Meridian; three sons, James Hunter and Dr. Eugene Hunter, both of Meridian, and Lewis Hunter of Cincinnati; three daughters, Lena B. Johnson of Hesperia, Calif., Wynell Edwards of Nashville and Lillie Lewis of Brookhaven; and a brother, Willie B. Hunter of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a truck driver for Roadway Express. Survivors include his wife, Mamie Amison of Meridian; two sons, James Amison of San Jose, Calif., and Johnny Ball and his wife, Teresa, of Philadelphia, Pa.; a daughter, Viola Willis of Meridian; a brother, Tommy Hill and his wife, Willie Mae, of Meridian; three sisters, Irma Joyce Huggins and her husband, Raymond, and Lillie Christian, both of Laurel, and Bertha Jean Jenkins and her husband, Larcell, of Meridian; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. REV. JESSIE LEE HUNTER Retired minister Services for the Rev. Jessie Lee "J.L." Hunter will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Okatibbee Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie E. Buckley officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Enterprise Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Rev. Hunter, 89, of Meridian, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He attended Lauderdale County Schools after moving to Meridian and furthered his education at Meridian Baptist Seminary under the leadership of the Southern Baptist. He received many certificates and a diploma and did further studies toward his bachelor's of theology degree. Rev. Hunter was pastor of Altare Baptist Church in Newton and retired in 1999 after faithfully serving the members of the church for more than 39 years. Survivors include his wife, Bernie Hunter of Meridian; three sons, James Hunter and Dr. Eugene Hunter, both of Meridian and Lewis Hunter of Cincinnati; three daughters, Lena B. Johnson of Hesperia, Calif., Wynell Edwards of Nashville, Tenn., and Lillie Lewis of Brookhaven; one brother, Willie B. Hunter of Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and a sister. Visitation will be today from 7 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home. ROBERT CLAY KILPATRICK Retired pharmacist DEKALB -- Services for Robert Clay Kilpatrick will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at DeKalb Baptist Church with the Rev. James Ruffin officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Kilpatrick, 84, of DeKalb, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was a retired pharmacist with Stribling Drugs of Philadelphia and was a member of DeKalb Baptist Church where he was a deacon for 38 years. Mr. Kilpatrick was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy where he was a chief pharmacist mate. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Kilpatrick of DeKalb; a daughter, Mary Ann Douglas of Dallas; a son, Robert Van Kilpatrick and his wife, Jeanie, and a grandson, Michael Kilpatrick, all of DeKalb; two step-grandchildren, John Beshears and his wife, Tammy, of Coffeeville; and David Breshears of Lexington, Ky.; a great-granddaughter, Erin Marie Beshears of Coffeeville; a sister, Drucilla Stevens of Green Cove, Fla. and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Sollie, 99, of Meridian, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Guardian Angel Hospice. She was a retired secretary for Long Creek Water Association. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and was a devoted wife and mother. Survivors include her sons, Raymond Sollie and his wife, Sally, of Starkville and William "Bill" Sollie of Meridian; a daughter, Winnifred L Jay and her husband, Billy Gene, of Meridian; a sister, Cecil Kerney of Starkville; five grandchildren, Ray Sollie and his wife, Laura, Mark Sollie and his wife, Kay, Donna Hill and her husband, Chuck of Auburn, Ala., Gene Jay and his wife, Shirley, of Meridian, and Teresa Roberts and her husband, Ronny, of Meridian; 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. JOHNSON HARRISON Retired teacher Graveside services for Katie Johnson Harrison will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Paul McDonald officiating. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Harrison, 94, of Enterprise, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at McNeil Personal Care Home. She was a retired teacher who taught in the surrounding county schools for a short time before coming to the Meridian Public School System at old "Stephenson" where she taught sixth grade for many years. 

Mrs. Harrison went on to set up the libraries in the city school system and retired. She was a baptist and a member of the 15th Avenue Baptist Church for nearly 50 years as a teacher in the junior department. She was also very active with the library. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Harrison; her parents, George C. Johnson and Mary Josie Johnson; four brothers, Houston R. Johnson, Herschel V. Johnson, Thurman C. Johnson and Lavalle Johnson; two sisters, Clennie Johnson Jenkins and Nola Johnson Stuart. Visitation is today from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. 

GLADYS R. NORRIS TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Graveside services for Gladys R. Norris will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Quitman, Miss. Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Tuscaloosa is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Norris, 91, of Tuscaloosa, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Heritage Health Care Center. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Wise Thurston and her husband, Frank, of Tuscaloosa; a son, Robert E. Norris of Muskegon, Mich.; two sisters, Nona Campbell of South Alabama; and Mildred Knapp of Mobile; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldridge K. Norris. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at the cemetery. 

JOE NATHAN SCOTT Services for Joe Nathan Scott will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Greater Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. J. W. Perrien Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the St. Luke Masonic Cemetery with Enterprise Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Scott, 82, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at his daughter's home in Louisville. He was a longtime resident of Meridian and owned his own business as an electrician for more than 50 years. He was a member of the St. Luke Grand Masonic Lodge, No. 18, and a veteran of World War II. Survivors include six daughters, Alice Ruth Moore and her husband, Jessie, of St. Louis, Mo.; Mary Ann Chandler and her husband, Irvin, of San Francisco; Mary Holman-Smith and her husband, Willie, of Stone Mountain, Ga.; Clara Pearl Wilson of Louisville; Betty Jo McFarland and her husband, Ralph, and Sandra Jones, all of Meridian; a special sister-in-law, Elmira Scott of Meridian; 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and two daughters. Visitation is today from noon to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miss Cron, 16, of Union, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Okatibbee Lake in Collinsville. She was a student at Union High School. She was born in Anchorage where she spent her childhood and moved to Union in December of 1999 and had completed her sophomore year at UHS. 
 

Miss Cron was a member of Steele Baptist Church in Scott County. She helped her father build the Family Fun Center in Philadelphia and paintball was her favorite activity there. 
 

Survivors include her mother, Stacey Cron Clark and her husband, Bill, of Willow, Alaska; her father, Terrell Pickett Jr. and his wife, Wendy, of Union; four sisters, Elodie Cron, Marina Cron, Dusty Clark and Mindy Clark, and a brother, Tyrel Clark, all of Willow; maternal grandparents, Concetta and John Gagnon of Wasilla, Alaska; paternal grandparents, Glenda and Jim Pendergest of Decatur and Terrell Sr. and Nancy Pickett of Lumberton; great-grandparents, Geneva Munn of Decatur; Earlene Pickett of Columbia; and Rose Cron of New Brighton, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mrs. Madison, 91, of Tupelo, died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Trace Way Manor in Tupelo. She worked at Whit's Cafe in the 1940s and was employed with East Mississippi Community College for many years. Scooba was her home for more than 50 years. 
 

Mrs. Madison was very active in the Scooba Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She also was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Eastern Star. Although she had no children, she made a loving contribution to the lives of many children and teenagers. 
 

Mrs. Madison was the last survivor of her immediate family. 
 

Survivors include two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wyatt Madison; her parents, Julia and Andrew Alexander; brothers, David Newton Alexander, John Thomas Alexander, Osker Leonard Alexander, Robert Earl Alexander, two infant brothers and one infant sister.

Mrs. Jumper, 86, of Meridian, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Heartfelt Hospice. She was retired as an assistant manager of Mangel's and Lerners. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hope Sunday School Class, Past Worthy Matron and Margaret Pickett Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Toomsuba. 
 

Survivors include her daughter, Nadyne Jumper Schindler of Meridian; a granddaughter, Julie Schindler Bryan of Sevierville, Tenn.; a great-grandson, David Ray Bryan; two sisters, Wilma Hicks of Marion and Lillian Harper of Rose Hill. 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jumper; and a brother Cecil Moulds. 
 

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Hope Sunday School Class.

Mr. Boren, 87, of Porterville, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Mississippi Health Care of DeKalb.

Survivors include her husband, Lavell Holt of Chunky; a son, Philip Holt and his wife, Donna, of Hickory; a daughter, Evarette Zachary and her husband, Larry, of Brandon; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Beemon and his wife, Elizabeth, of Chunky and Harvey Beemon and his wife, Helen Ann, of Quitman; and a sister, Clara Crabtree of Chunky. 
 

She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Holt; a grandson, Dustin Holt; and a brother, Gressett Beemon.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Abb Johnson and Dee Burns; and a son, Vince Stokley.

Mr. Dugan, 46, of Shuqualak, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a plant manager of the Kemper Pressure Pole Mill in Electric Mills. 
 

Survivors include his mother, Billie Dugan of Las Vegas; his father, Bob Dugan of Shuqualak; a son, Bobby Dugan of Shuqualak; two grandchildren; and a brother, Greg Dugan of Las Vegas. 
 

Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Norsworthy, 85, of Quitman, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital in Quitman. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Onie A. Norsworthy; two sons, Joe Norsworthy and his wife, Carol Ann, of Quitman and Doug Norsworthy and his wife, Mary, of Plano, Texas; two sisters, Sibyl Rhodes of Mobile, Ala., and Agnes Lewis of Meridian; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Coleman, 97, of Meridian, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Benchmark Healthcare Center. 
 

She was born in Lowndes County and retired from Southern Railway System where she was chief clerk to the district freight and passenger agent. 
 

She was a member of First Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She was active in civic work; she had been a member of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra League; patron of the Meridian Little Theatre; a charter member and past president of Wattswood Garden Club; treasurer of Samuel Dale Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; member of Colonial Dames; member of descendants of Valley Forge; Pilot Club of Meridian; League of Women Voters; past president Matinee Musical Club; past president and life member of Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs; and a life member of National Federation Music Clubs. 
 

Survivors include her husband, George Albert Coleman; a daughter, Georgia Coleman Davis, of Jackson; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 
 

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Coleman Mynatt.

Mrs. Brown, 86, of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, July, 2, 2002, at Neshoba County General Hospital in Philadelphia. She was a retired factory/restaurant worker. 
 

Survivors include her husband, Jimmie L. Brown of Philadelphia; three sons, Johnny Brown and his wife, Jean, of DeKalb, James Brown and his wife, Sheila, of Philadelphia and Gerald Brown and his wife, Debbie, of Kosciusko; two sisters, Catherine Higginbotham and Elizabeth Collins, both of Carthage; a brother, Bernard Carroll of Morton; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Shamburger, 76, of Vicksburg, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at River Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was a native of Meridian who was retired from his job as an engineer at Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four daughters, Marie S. Mitchell of Fair Play, S.C., Carol S. Horn of Vicksburg, Brenda S. Jackson of Starkville and Lisa S. Mayne of Greenwood; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Pearl F. Shamburger.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; a daughter, Shawn Tolbird and her husband, Troy; three sons, Jason Massey and his wife, Cindy, Mark Massey and his wife Angie and Nick Massey, all of Decatur; a brother, James "Buddy" Massey of Decatur; two sisters, Lottie Patterson and Dorothy Cullum, both of Decatur; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ollie and Carrie Massey and Mae Mcelhenney, and three sisters, Daisy Ezelle, Loraine Shealy and Ethel Walton.
