Mr. Griffin, 76, of Clinton, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in his home.

Mr. Lavender, 47, of Meridian, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in his home. He was a member of State Boulevard Baptist Church. He was a member of LEMA and worked in the medical field most of his life. 
 

Survivors include his mother, Naomi Lavender of Meridian; a sister, Jan Williams Madden and her husband, Richard, of Collinsville; a nephew, Tyler Williams; a niece, Terrica Williams; his former wife, Ruby Mitchell of Meridian; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 
 

He was preceded in death by his father, Garland "Bishop" Lavender; and his grandparents, Arthur and Edith Sisson, and Huey and Mary Lavender. 
 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or State Boulevard Baptist Church Building Fund. 
 

Pallbearers will be members of LEMA. 
 

Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Giles, 81, of Meridian, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in his home. He was a founding member and deacon at Briarwood Baptist Church and a member of the V.F. W. He served in the European Campaign in World War II, and received the silver star, and three bronze stars and a purple heart. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ward Giles of Meridian; two daughters, Cathy Giles Williamson and her husband, Lester Williamson Jr., of Meridian, Patricia Lynn Giles of Meridian; two sons, William "Bill" Giles Jr. and his wife, Vicki, of Byram and Jeffrey Ward Giles of Lake Charles, La.; three grandchildren, Virginia Wright Williamson, Lester "Les" Franklin Williamson III and John Thomas Williamson; three special cousins, Hazel Coker Marshall, Tommie Coker and Billy Coker; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Chapman.

Mr. Soulé, 90, of Meridian, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital. 
 

He was born Jan. 6, 1912, the son of George Wilberforce and Constance Gara Soulé of "Dreamland on the Narrows," in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. 
 

Mr. Soulé, whose father founded Soulé Steam Feed Works in 1893 in Meridian, received his early education in Meridian and Florida. He graduated from Palm Beach High School, West Palm Beach, Fla., in 1929. 
 

An intensely analytical mind as well as skills and interests developed during summer apprenticeships at Soulé Steam Feed Works influenced his choice of colleges. He entered Georgia Tech in the fall of that year. 
 

Following studies in electrical and mechanical engineering, Mr. Soulé returned to Meridian in 1933 to begin his life's work. Early in his career Mr. Soulé worked as a machinist, salesman and manager. His many successes led to appointment as president of the company in 1949. He served as chairman of the board of directors until his retirement in 1986. 
 

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Eileen O'Rorke Soulé; a daughter, Mary Eileen Soulé; a son, George Halbert Soulé Jr.; a beloved grandson, George Halbert "Trey" Soulé III; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert G. and Loletia Soulé; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eda Soulé Keeton of Magnolia Springs, Ala.; and twin daughters, Charlotte and Susan who died in infancy. 
 

Pallbearers will be John Massey, Robert Glenn, Dan Self, Albert Weems and Tom Zettler. 
 

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Stack, Richard Wilbourn, Phillip Hughes, Dr. Anthony Fouts, Hunter George Weddington and G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery. 
 

Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Brewer Sr. She graduated from Zach Huggings High School with high honors and later received her bachelor's and master's degrees in speech language pathology from the University of Southern Mississippi. 
 

Following several years of practice as a speech pathologist, she began teaching at Columbia College in 1977 where she was recently notified she would be awarded the Medallion Award, Columbia College's Board of Trustees' highest award for service to the college. 
 

In addition, she was an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina and served as the 1997-98 president of the South Carolina Speech-Language Hearing Association. She received two of the highest honors of this professional association, the Louis M. DiCarlo Award for Outstanding Teaching and Clinical Service and the Frank G. Kleffner Award for Career Achievement. With the support of the Columbia Sertoma Club, Mrs. Mungo established a student chapter of this service organization devoted to speech and hearing. She served as its advisor until her retirement this year. 
 

During her 25 years at Columbia College, Mrs. Mungo built strong relationships with her students who continue to view her as a role model in their careers. She taught and mentored many of South Carolina's practicing speech-language therapists and was well known at local elementary schools observing and guiding her student teachers. She firmly believed speech and language were critical factors in the communication process of learning, and established a volunteer program using her students to evaluate and teach speech and language to children at Saint Lawrence Place, Trinity Cathedral's transitional housing complex. 
 

Mrs. Mungo believed in humane animal welfare and opened her heart and home to animals in need. Her life's ambition was to be a friend and she worked tirelessly to encourage and support other women with breast cancer. 
 

She enjoyed traveling, all sports, and residing at her beach house where she could often be found looking for loggerhead turtle nests in the spring and summer. She will be remembered by all for her generosity, grace and compassion as well as her bright and courageous spirit. 
 

Mrs. Mungo's family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Robert Smith for his many years of compassionate and professional care. They also express their gratitude to the staff of the Palmetto Baptist Campus of the South Carolina Cancer Center for their wonderful care over the last ten years.

Mrs. Johansen, 71, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She graduated from Meridian High School and Belhaven College in Jackson. She taught third grade in Panama City and Orlando, Fla., and also at Elm School in Illinois. 
 

Since returning to Meridian in 1992, Mrs. Johansen has worked in the children's clothing department at Sears. 
 

She was one of 12 children born to Rome Augustus and Nita Flynt Emmons. 
 

Survivors include her son, James F. Johansen and his wife, Kim, of Whitehall, Md.; a daughter, Leslie E. Johansen-Salters and her husband, Charles R.
