Willah Ra to Joel Pinson, deed, Book 1, page 90

"This Indenture made this 6th day of October in the year 1836 between Willah Ra the only surviving heir of Ho lahto Rah, of the Chickasaw nation in the state of Mississippi of the first part, and Joel Pinson of the second part. Witnesseth that the said Willah Ra for and in consideration of the sum of Eight hundred Dollars to her in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged has bargained and sold and by these presents does grant, bargain, sell and convey to the said Joel Pinson section of Land No. Thirty of Township No nine of Range No seven west of the Basis? meridian, in the Chickasaw District It being the land to which Willah Ra became entitled under the Treaty of the 24th of May 1834 To have and to hold the aforesaid land & bargained premises with the appurtenances, to the only proper use and benefit of the said Joel Pinson his heirs and assigns forever And the said Willah Ra being the lawful owner of said land & having right to convey will forever warrant!

& defend the same, with the appurtenances to the said Joel Pinson his heirs and assigns forever against the claim of all claimants whatsoever. In witness whereof, I the said Willah Ra, have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, the date first above written

John McCullar to James McCullar, Deed of Gift

"This Indenture made (etc.) between John McCullar - Senr. of the one part and James McCullar of the other part both of the County & State of Mississippi Witnesseth that the said John McCullar as well for and in consideration of the natural love and affection. Which he the said John McCullar - hath and beareth toward him the said James McCullar his son - as also Compensation for services rendered by him the said James McCullar to him the said John McCullar (his father Hath given granted aliened? & confirmed the following property & money (to wit) The one half of the south half of the south East quarter of Section No (35) Township No (10) Range No (6) west of the Basis? Meridian Chickasaw cession also half the farming utensils one cow and calf due half my stock of hogs - one feather bed & furniture belonging to the same & One hundred Dollars - in money To have and to hold when it pleases the almighty God to call him the said John McCullar from this world -

Isaac M. Scott to Eliza A. Ellis, deed, page 408, Book 1


"This Indenture made this 15th day of July 1841 between Isaac M. Scott of the Town of Panola and Panola County Mississippi of the one part, and Eliza A. Ellis of Lunenburg County Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Isaac M. Scott for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars to him in hand paid the receipt of which this acknowledges hath and doth by these presents bargain sell and convey unto the said Eliza the North East quarter of Section Eighteen (18) Township (8) Range (8) in the County of Panola, it being the same sold by W.W. Smith Sheriff of Panola, as the property of Joel Root for which I have a deed from said Smith Sheriff as aforesaid dated the 5th day of May 1841. Also two lots in the Town of Panola to wit Lots No. five (5) and six (6) Block No. twenty two (22) In said Town of Panola they being the same sold by said Smith Sheriff, as the property of the Panola Town Company for which I have a deed dated 5th May 1841. To have and t! o hold to her the said Eliza A. Ellis and her heirs forever and the said Isaac M. Scott doth covenant to and with the said Eliza A. Ellis that he will warrant and defend the title of said Land and also said Town Lots to the said Eliza A. Ellis her heirs and assigns against the lawful claim or claims of any and all persons claiming under him.

Board of Police to Wm Smith, deed, Book 1, page 409

"Know all men by these presents that I Elisha Q.. Vance, President of the Board of Police for Panola County, in the State of Mississippi acting for and in behalf of said County for and in consideration of the sum of Seventy five dollars in hand paid by William Smith the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents do bargain sell and convey unto the said Wm Smith a certain Lot or parcel of Land in the donation of the Town of Panola, known and designated as Lot No six in Block No Ten. To have and to hold the Lot aforesaid to him the said Wm Smith his heirs and assigns forever, and I, the said Elisha Q. Vance president aforesaid bind myself and my successors in office to warrant and defend the title to the same to the said Wm Smith his heirs and assigns.

John R. Ward to Nancy W. Nelson, Deed, Book 1, page 392

"This Indenture made and entered into this Fifth day of ? in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty one between John R. Ward of the County of Panola and State of Mississippi of the first part and Nancy W. Nelson wife of Garland G. Nelson of the second part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and twenty seven dollars paid by the party of the second part to the party of the first part, the party of the first part have this day bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents do bargain sell deed deliver and convey unto the party of the second part Lot Number Three four & five in Block numbered one in the Town of Panola in the County of Panola and State of Mississippi as designated in the plan of said town, and one Feather Bed and one large Jim? Cow, and the party of the first part covenants and agrees for himself his heirs Executors administrators and assigns to warrant and forever defend the title to said property to the pa! rty of the second part his heirs, Executors administrators and assigns free from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever, in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifth day of June A.D. 1841.     (Nancy Elizabeth Ward Nelson was my GG grandmother and I thought she might be related to John R. Ward since they were involved in several transactions together and were both born in TN. Since he sold her 3 lots and a feather bed and a cow, I think he might have been her brother.)



John R. Ward & Mary Ann Ward his wife to Nancy W. Nelson, Book 2, page 188

"This Indenture made and entered into this seventeenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty six between John R. Ward and Mary Ann Ward his wife of the County of Panola and State of Mississippi of the first part and Nancy W. Nelson of the same County and state of the second part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and thirty dollars paid by the party of the second part to the party of the first part the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the parties of the first part have this day bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell and deliver and convey unto the party of the second part lots of land numbered one and two in Block numbered one in the Town of Panola as described in the plan of said town lying and being in the County of Panola aforesaid and the said party of the first part agrees to warrant and forever defend the title to said lots numbered one and two in Block No. One to the party of the! second part his heirs Executors and administrators free from the claim of all and every person or persons whatsoever.

Calvin Miller et al to Neal Kyle, Book 4, page 80


"In consideration of the sum of the sum (repeated) of Two Hundred and seventy five dollars secured by three promisory notes one for seventy five dollars due and payable the 25th december 1857 one for one hundred Dollars due and payable the 25th December 1858, the other for the like sum due & payable the 25th day of December 1859 - all drawing interest from date and bearing even date herewith executed to me Calvin Miller by Neal Kyle as principal and Duncan C. Henderson security we, the said Calvin Miller and Catharine V. Miller his wife have this day granted bargained & sold & by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said Neal Kyle the following described tract or parcel of Land lying and being in Panola County State of Mississippi to wit the North West Quarter of Section Twenty Eight Township Eight Range Five West of the Basis meridian of the Chickasaw survey. To have and to hold the above described premises with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belon! ging in fee simple forever unto him the said Neal Kyle his heirs &c warranting & defending the title to the same against the claims of ourselves our heirs & against the claims of all persons whatsoever.

P. Camp to David Butts, Book 2, page 337

"This Indenture made and entered into this fourteenth day of November One thousand Eight hundred and forty Eight between Peramus Camp of the first part and David Butts of the second part both parties of the County of Panola and State of Mississippi Witnesseth that the said Camp of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars in hand paid by the party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged - hath given granted bargained sold conveyed and delivered unto the party of the second part a certain tract or parcel of land situated in the County of Panola and State aforesaid. Whereon I, the said party of the first now reside - known and distinguished in the plan of survey as the south west quarter of section nineteen of Township Eight in Range five west of the Basis Meridian of the Chickasaw cession and contains one hundred and Eight one? & 4/100 acres - be the same more or less - to have and to hold the said land with all the impr! ovements, Gin, Stand, Thrashing Machine, Cotton Press, Running gear, with all the appurtenances improvements to the same in any wise belonging to the same to the only use and behoof of the said David Butts his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever - and the said Peramus Camp for himself his heirs Executors administrators and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons claiming.

    I looked up the years for these records. They are deeds of the second district. Book 1 is 1836-1844. Book 2 is 1844-1850, and Books 3 & 4 are 1850-1867.

Albert H. Burdine Harriet C. Burdine to Ann G. Allen. Book 2, page 482



"This Indenture made the thirteenth day of November in the year of our Lord One Thousand and Eight Hundred and forty nine between Albert H. Burdine and Harriet C. Burdine his wife of Panola County State of Mississippi of the one part, and Ann G. Allen of the same County and State of the second part, Witnesseth that the said Burdine and Harriet C. his wife for and in consideration of the sum of One Dollar, in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and the further consideration, of an assignment by said party of the second part to said Burdine of all her interest in the Estate of Lucinda Waggoner, deceased, by these presents, have granted, bargained and sold and released and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell release and confirm unto said Ann G. Allen and to her heirs and assigns all that certain tract of Land lying and being in said Panola County in the town of Panola ? at the S.E. Corner of said Burdine's 10 acre lot running thence west 35 y! ards thence north 140 yards, thence East 35 yards, thence south 140 yards, bounded on the south by water? Street, and East by Brown's seven acre lot, containing two acres more or less To have and to hold the said tract of land with all appurtenances unto the said Ann G. Allen, her heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Ann G. Allen her heirs and assigns forever, And the said Albert H. Burdine and Harriet C. Burdine for themselves their heirs Executors & administrators do covenant & promise and agree to and with the said Ann G. Allen, her heirs and assigns by these presents that they, the said party of the first part and their heirs the said above Mentioned tract of land and hereditaments hereby grant with the appurtenances unto the said Ann G. Allen her heirs and assigns against them the said party of the first part and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim by from or under them or any of them shall an! d will warrant and forever defend by these presents - for witness whereof the party of the first part has hereunto set their hands and Seal the day and year first above written.

Wilson T. Caruthers to William S. Henderson, Book 1, page 140


"This Indenture made the eighth day of February in the year Eighteen hundred and thirty seven Between Wilson T. Caruthers of the first part and William S. Henderson of the second part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Twelve thousand dollars in hand paid the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the party of the first part hath granted and Sold to the party of the second part One half of his interest in the Town of Panola being the undivided ? One eighth thereof as described in a Deed of Trust made on the Eighth day of December 1836 by Wilson T.? Caruthers and David Hubbard to Richard Bolton and Wilson S.? Caruthers Trustees for the proprietors of said Town and Containing about two hundred and seventy acres more or less to have and to hold the said one eighth of said Town to the said party of the second part not in communtent? Jointly with the other proprietors of said Town, also the party of the first part doth further grant and sell to the party of th! e second part for the consideration above mentioned the undivided One half of the Remainder of the north east quarter of Section seven and of the north west quarter of Section Eight of Township Nine of Range seven seven (repeated) west not included in the aforesaid Deed of Trust also the whole Remainder of the west half of Section five of Township nine of Range seven west, not included in the aforesaid Deed of Trust & not included in a donation of Fifty acres made to Panola County in Consideration of their their Locating the County seat at said place. The party of the first part however, Retains to himself his heirs & assigns and does not grant all or any ferry privileges belonging to or connected with said fractional half section of land with a suitable and convenient Landing for ferry boats The said landing to be on or at the termination of a Street should a Street be laid out and afford a suitable and Convenient Landing as aforesaid to have and to hold the aforesaid Lan! ds & interests under the Restrictions and limitations aforesaid to the party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever.

"This Indenture made and Entered into this sixteenth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and thirty nine, between Thomas Beard of Desoto County and State of Mississippi and Charles Grandison Butler and wife Burlina of the County of Lafayette and State of aforesaid of the first part and Adam Franklin Beard of the County of Marshall and State aforesaid of the second part
Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen Hundred dollars, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged doth by these presents give grant bargain sell and Convey unto the party of the second part his Heirs and assigns forever a certain lot or parcel of Land situated lying and being in the County of Panola, and State aforesaid portion ? designated in the Receivers office at Pontotoc Mississippi as the west half of Section seven, Township nine and Range six west of the basis meridian, and the south west quarter of Section twenty ! Eight Township Eight and Range six west containing four hundred and Eighty acres more or less together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging to have and to hold said above described parcel of Land unto the said Adam Franklin Beard his heirs and assigns forever and to his use and behoof forever, and the said Thomas Beard and Charles Grandison Butler, and wife Burlina, for themselves, heirs executors and administrators doth covenant with the said Adam Franklin Beard his heirs and assigns forever both at law and Equity against the Lawful demands of them of the said party of the first part, their heirs &c and against the claims of all other persons whatsoever.

Board of Police to Martha White, Book 1, page 335

"This Indenture made and entered into this twentieth day of April Eighteen hundred and forty by and between the board of Police of the County of Panola and State of Mississippi for the time being and their successors in office of the first part and Martha White of the same County and State of the second part. Witnesseth that whereas Richmond J. Jones, a brother to the said Martha hath this day purchased of the said party of the first part a certain lot or parcel of ground lying and situated in the Town of Panola Known on the plat of said Town as Lot number (7) seven in block number (1) one and the said Richmond in consideration of the love and affection which he hath unto the said Martha his sister being desirous to give grant and convey unto the said Martha the aforesaid or parcel of ground for her separate and sole use and behoof in fee simple forever, to which end the said Richmond doth likewise make himself a party hereto by signing sealing and delivering these presents! and having procured the said board of Police to prevent ceranty? of title to Execute deed to said lot directly unto said Martha now therefore as aforesaid this indenture witnesseth that the said first part for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and Eleven dollars to them in hand paid by the said Richmond the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath this day granted bargained and sold unto said Martha the foregoing described Lot or parcel of Ground to have and to hold unto her the said Martha, her heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns in fee simple forever, the said lot or parcel of ground together with all and singular the hereditaments and appertenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining, and the said party of the first part do covenant and agree for themselves and their successors in office to warrant & defend unto said Martha her heirs Executors, administrators and assigns a good and sufficient title to said Lot against the claim or cla! ims of themselves and also against the claim or claims of all and every other person whatsoever, claiming by or through them.

"This Indenture made on the 14th day of November AD 1843 between Henry Harrison of the first part and Piramus Camp of the second part Witnesseth that the said Harrison for and in consideration of the sum of Eight hundred dollars to him paid by the said Camp, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath given granted bargained sold conveyed and confirmed and by this Indenture do give grant bargain sell convey and confirm to the said Piramus Camp a certain tract or parcel of land situated in the County of Panola and State of Mississippi known and designated as the south west quarter of Section nineteen of Township Eight in Range five west of the Basis Meridian of the Chickasaw cession and contains One hundred and Eighty one & ? acres more or less, to have and to hold the said land with the appurtenances and improvements to the same belonging to the said Camp his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever, and the said Henry Harrison for himself his heirs Executors! administrators the said land unto the said Camp his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons, body politic or corporation whatever shall and will warrant and forever defend -In testimony whereof the said Henry Harrison hath signed sealed & delivered this indenture on this the day & year first aforesaid.

"This Indenture made and entered into this 4th day of December AD one thousand eight hundred & fifty six between Alexander McCullar & Jane McCullar his wife of the first part and William L. Woods of the second part all of the County of Panola & State of Mississippi.

Witnesseth: That the party of the first for and in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred Dollars to them in hand paid before the sealing & delivery of these presents have bargained & sold & by these presents do bargain sell alien convey & confirm unto the said party of the second part a certain tract or parcel of land situated in said State and County & designated by the Government surveys as the SE 1/4 of Sect No. 11. Township 10. Range 6 west of the Chickasaw Cession and the said party of the first part covenant that they are possessed at the date hereof of right in fee simple to the above described land and conveys all right title claim & interest which they have to the same to the said party of the second ! part his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever against the claim or claims of any and all persons whatsoever.

Walker of Milton Caswell County & State of North Carolina of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars, to him the said Beard in hand paid by the said A.J. Walker the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day bargained sold & conveyed & by these presents doth bargain sell and convey unto the said A.J. Walker a certain peace or parcel of land - situate lying & being in the County of Panola & State of Mississippi Known & designated as the south east quarter of section No. Twenty four in Township No. Ten. of Range No. seven west containing one hundred & sixty acres more or less, to have and to hold the aforesaid land & bargained premises in fee simple to the only proper use benefit & behoof of him ! the said A.J. Walker his heirs and assigns forever. the said Beard covenants and agrees with the said Walker that the before recited lands and bargained premises he will forever warrant and defend the title to the said Walker against the lawful claims of all claimants whomsoever by through or under them or any other person or persons whomsoever.

Henderson a tract of Land Known as the North fraction of the south west fractional quarter of Section number nineteen of Township 9 of Range 8 west north of the River containing Eighty four acres in the County and State aforesaid to have and to hold unto the said Malcolm C. Henderson his heirs and assigns forever.

" This Indenture made this second day of December 1836 between Patsey Kemp No. 45 Sealy's District of the Chickasaw Nation of Indians of the first part and William F. White of the second part Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the sum of Eight hundred Dollars paid to the party of the first doth hereby Bargain sell Deed and Convey to the party of the second part Section of Land numbered Seven in Township No. Eight in Range No. Six west which has been Located for the party of the first part as her Reserve, to have and to hold the said Land hereby Conveyed to the party of the second part forever free from the Claim of all Claimants.

"This Indenture made the fifth day of July in the year eighteen hundred and thirty seven, between William S. Henderson of the first part and William E. Stone of the second part both of the State of Mississippi Witnesseth that the party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand paid, the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged - hath granted, bargained & sold to the party of the second part the following tract or parcel of land to wit, beginning at Chamberlain Henlys south west corner of his five acre tract of land running north with Henlys line, twenty poles, with Henlys line then west Twenty poles to G.G. Nelsons line of his five acre tract of Land thence south with said line to Water street - thence East with said street to the beginning twenty poles Containing two acres and one half of Land to have and to hold said land and bargained premises, to the party of the second part his heirs or assigns forever. and the party of the first part Covenants to and with the said party of the second part that the Right and title of said land he will warrant and forever defend - unto him and his heirs against the claim or claims of all and Every person or persons whatsoever.
