The 2009 Sherman School Reunion

The 2009 Sherman school reunion will be held on Saturday, April 25th at the Sherman Library.    The event begins at 10:30 AM in the library conference room.  The library is located in the old grammar school building which is the only remaining building of the school in Sherman.  The reunion is open to anyone who attended Sherman school, as well as, former teachers and friends.  The school originally opened as Mississippi Normal College on September 1, 1890 with 75 pupils.  With the development of the Public School System, about 1907, its patronage dwindled and a few years later the school was consolidated with the Public system.    The school was open to grades 1 thru 12  until 1964 at which time the doors were closed permanently.  After the school closed all students were sent to surrounding schools in Lee, Pontotoc and Union counties.

This year the Friends of Sherman Library are selling plate lunches for $10.00 which includes drink and dessert.  The proceeds they collect will go into the fund they set up last year for building a community center in Sherman.  Donations are tax deductible!
