There are 1200+ names taken from headstone inscriptions in Union County listed at this "quick search" site. Keep in mind that the information contained here only covers 26 cemeteries out of 85 known cemeteries in the county and several of these 26 cemeteries were not completely recorded. To find the person/persons you want, click on "Master Index", and scroll down the list until you find the name/names you wish to see. Make a note of the name and the number beside the name: This number is the cemetery reference number. Now go back and click on the cemetery corresponding to that number and scroll down the list until you locate the inscription you wish to see. These inscriptions were recorded as they actually appeared on the headstones, reading from top to bottom (not by last name...for historical accuracy), so watch carefully or you may skip right past the one you wish to see. The stones themselves are not in alphabetical order so you may have to scroll through an entire list. For example: I wish to find some information on John Webster Doe who I know was buried in Union County. When I check the "Master Index" I find a John Doe in cemetery #4 and a J.W. Doe in cemetery #19. I make a note of those facts and go to cemeteries' #4 (Beulah) and #19 (Mount Olivet) and scroll through each list until I find the inscriptions. Hopefully the headstone inscriptions will reveal which John is the one I'm looking for. If not, then his headstone won't be found at this "quick search" site... If you don't find who you are looking for in the "Master Index", go to MSGENWEB'S Union County page and click on "CEMETERIES" then click on "PARTIAL LISTINGS (NOT INDEXED)" and look thru this material cemetery by cemetery because this material is not indexed. Also don't forget to check "CIVIL WAR VETERAN HEADSTONES". If you still can't find who you are looking for you might as well pay a visit to the Union County Library's Genealogical Room and see what you can find in there...
