QRYTEXT:I'm have great difficullty finding anything regarding my grandfather, Alonzo Lorenzo Smith. His death certificate states he was born in Enterprise MS, which I initially assumed to be in Clarke Co., until I learned that he and my grandmother got marrried in Monroe Co, next door to Union Co, (which my map says has an Enterprise also). I do know that he was born 31 January 1861 in Enterprise.. He and my grandmother Annie Elizabeth Naylor were married 25 January 1893 in Monroe Co. This was a second marriage for him - first wife unknown. His occupation was locomotive engineer for the M & O RR until he died 7 July 1940. QRYTEXT:In our search we felt it appropriate to include Union County to find information which might assist us. My Mother and I have been searching for any and all information regarding "Henry Middleton? Shurbet." H.M.S. resided in Prentiss and enlisted in the Confederacy in 1862 in 19th Infantry, CO-K. We have copies of documents that show this but we are unable to find much else. On his military papers his name was usually spelled "Sherbit", however, there are different spellings as I'm sure you know. He served at Richmond VA, at Chimbrazo Hospital as a Guard, and later in Columbus, and return to Prentiss at the close of the Civil War. H.M.S. was born 1814 in Spartanburg SC?, and died and is buried in Prentiss, MS in 1892. He was my G-G-G Grandfather. His Son, to whom I descend, was Zadus Brister Shurbet. One Genealogist suggests that he was a spy for the Confederacy, and suggests that that is the reason we are unable to find much information. QRYTEXT:According to family tradition Elijah Pitts and wife, Lucinda Lewis Johnson Pitts died in or near Poplar Spinrgs, Union Co., MS around 1885-1886. They had three Pitts children, James Macklamore Pitts, Robert Drayton Pitts and Maggie D. Pitts, and perhaps some Johnson children. The Pitts children moved to Ellis Co., TX where they lived with their 1/2 brother, George Washington Pitts. They all married in Ellis County around 1890. ANY information about them would be appreciated. I'll gladly share all I have about them with anyone. I am a descendent of Maggie Pitts!
