Joseph E. Davis
The older
brother of Jefferson Davis, Joseph was born December 10, 1784. He married
Eliza Van Benthuysen Davis in 1827. He owned Hurricane Plantation located on Davis Island.
in the
Mississippi River. The house was burned by Federal troops in 1862.
Joseph later
lived at Anchuca in Vicksburg and was living there at
the time of his death on
September 18, 1870.
