Emma Harrison Balfour   Born January 3, 1818 – Died February 25, 1887. 

                  She married W. T. Balfour and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Vicksburg City Cemetery).

 

A noted diarist of the Siege of Vicksburg, she lived at Balfour House (built in mid-1830s), the site

                    of the 1862 Christmas ball interrupted by the arrival of the Federal fleet. Following surrender on

July 4, 1863, Balfour House was the Headquarters of Maj. Gen. J.B. McPherson.
