MISSISSIPPI RIVER ROUTES: AN APPEAL FOR MATERIAL CONTRIBUTIONS
Mississippi River
Routes, your Vicksburg Genealogical Society’s quarterly journal, publishes original well-documented material from
our Louisiana-Mississippi area of interest. Despite its name, VGS does not
limit itself to Vicksburg and Warren County, Mississippi. Rather, we focus on a
broader area that encompasses those Mississippi counties and Louisiana parishes
along and near the Mississippi River from the northern boundary of Louisiana’s
Florida Parishes (Louisiana-Mississippi line) to the Louisiana-Arkansas line
and beyond. Our boundaries are not rigid though.
In our eleven years of publication (under
three editors), we have been fortunate to have an
abundance of excellent material covering a wide temporal and geographic range. Also, our articles have reflected
many types of source documents that our
members and friends have been kind enough to share with us. Issues that contain a nice variety of high-quality
submissions will attract and keep a wide
readership.
Thanks to everyone who has
contributed to our success over this first decade.
Good issues do not happen by accident.
An Editor can only do so much with available material.
Your input is needed if we are to continue to publish a quality journal. Please consider sharing a family treasure (e.g.,
a family Bible or interesting
correspondence) or the fruits of your research (e.g., a cemetery inventory, interesting records, or an article summarizing
your work).Remember that good
documentation is essential if others are to retrace your steps. Also, material must be at least fifty years old. In addition, we
welcome queries. Each query must include
mailing address and e-mail address (if available) and needs to be concise,
focused, and related to our area of interest. Others may be able to help you solve a family puzzle.
