Looking for: Gatlin ancestor info in Wayne and surrounding counties. My grandmother was Abany or Albaney Gatlin, born in 1870's. She married George Stanley in 1895. Barnett; Louisia Gatlin who married (in 1900) Joseph Arnold; Julia Gatlin who married (in 1892) Charles P. Street; Eliza Gatlin who Married (in 1896) John W. Waller; Icy Gatlin who married (in 1897) A.B. Elliott; and Rebecca Gatlin who married (1890) Adam Langley; There were four Gatlin men who married in Wayne County: Ben was married in 1896; James married in 1898; Thomas married in 1890; and WM married in 1886. Ties to any of these would help me find their relationship to Abany Gatlin and help me to discover her lineage.

I am researching the Patton family of Wayne County, MS. Family tradition has four Patton brothers, William, Arthur, James, and Joseph and their father, James, from Abbeville, SC in Wayne County as early as 1807. These early Patton families were devout Methodists and settled along the Chickasawhay River in what became the Winchester community. My line:
William A. Patton, born 1807, Wayne Co., MS, married in 1833, Mary Hutson who was born in 1815 in old Washington Co., AL.in 1833.
Their known children:

Elvina, born abt 1837
Francis A., born abt 1839 (my great grandmother married Aaron Theodore Duke(s)
Elizabeth, born abt 1841
George W., born abt 1842
Joseph, twin, born abt 1847
Female, twin, born abt 1847 (listed in 1850 census as "Puss")
Susannah, born abt 1852

My grandmother was Martha Elkins, said to be daughter of John Elkins who was said to have drowned in Bucatuana Creek along with a son. Four girls, Martha, born 1851 in either Lee or Henry Cty. ALA, Lula, Sally, and Julie are said to have been "farmed out" to neighbors in the community for rearing. I have no record of Martha's marriage but the other girls were finally married in the 1870's in Choctaw County, ALA, where Martha lived after marrying William Thomas Linder. Does anyone know of local history about a double-drowning in Bucatuana Creek?

DREW    SCARBOROUGH    WEBB

My great, great grandmother was born in Waynesboro, Wayne County, MS. Family records show that her name was Martha Eliza Webb. Although I do not know her birth date, she married Levi Drew, Jr.(b. 1830 in Emanuel County, GA. He was the son of Levi Drew, Sr., son of Willson Drew). Martha and Levi married c. 1857, but I have been unsuccessful in locating a marriage record for them. The had my great grandmother, Georgia Ann Drew who married Marion Anthony Scarborough in Harrison County.
My aunt researched her lines for 20 years, but did very little on the Webbs. She shows that Martha Webb, b. 1839?, may have been the daughter of Daniel D. Webb (son of Stephen W.) who is shown in the 1850 Jackson County census as being 35 years old with a daughter named Martha. Although this birth date is about right, other genealogies show that this Martha married someone else.
If you can help me locate a marriage record for Martha and Levi, I would be most grateful. I am also anxious to learn who her parents were, so that I might research this line further.
I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

PEARSON     McLAIN

DATE: Oct 17, 1998
NAME: Deborah Gilbert

I'm trying to find my Choctaw connection. The oldest living relative on that side of my family is in a nursing home. She says Annie Pearson was their grandmother and she was Choctaw. Annie was raped by a relative and had a daughter named Emily Pearson who became my great-grandmother. She married a McLain from Wayne County. Emily is buried in Boyles Chapel Cemetery in Wayne County, which is 8-10 miles past Arrington Cemetery between Laurel and Waynesboro. Annie's father was Christopher Pearson. It follows that Christopher would have been a Choctaw as well. Anyway, this is all I have on them. I can't find anything on the cemetery online and my inquiry to the Choctaw reservation was unanswered. Anything would be appreciated, but especially if Annie and her side of the family can actually be traced to the Choctaw nation.   Thank you!   Deborah Gilbert
