Hazel Mae Slay Bishop

Services for Hazel Slay Bishop of Hazlehurst were Saturday, June 1, in the Hazlehurst First Baptist Church chapel with burial in Antioch Cemetery. Mrs. Bishop, 88, died Wednesday, May 28, 2002, at her home. Stringer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bishop was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Simpson County and grew up in the Union community. She graduated from Hinds Community College and later earned a Master's in Education from Mississippi State University. She was married to Ayers B. Bishop of Hazlehurst for 55 years.

Mrs. Bishop taught school in Pinola, Harrisville, Centerpoint and Maben. Mr. and Mrs. Bishop moved to Hazlehurst in 1980 and became active in First Baptist Church. She was active in Sunday school, Glory Choir, W.M.U. and the Actioneers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents Ed and May Slay, four sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include nieces, a nephew and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to Hazlehurst First Baptist Church or Hospice Ministries of Brookhaven.
