Richard Ferrill, fore-runner of Clan Ferrilll

Richard was born ca1665, in an area declared in 1764 as Bute County, carved from Granville County, in North East North Carolina.  Bute County ceased to exist in 1779, divided into Franklin and Warren Counties.  Records of Bute may be found today in the records of these two counties. Public libraries across North Carolina,  along with the North Carolina Office of Archives and History, now house many books and other publications that identify these records.  The Forsyth County Library, in Winston-Salem, has a large collection of historical and genealogical records relating to events during the colonial days, and  those records may be reviewed there.  One son, John, was born in 1695, who lived to marry Ann Bryant.  John died in 1786.  His son, William, had four sons by a wife, whose names we do not know. sons were Byrd, Benjamin, Bryant and Archelous.  William and family  moved to Screven County, Georgia in the late 1700's.   He died in 1807, in Hancock Georiga; but no sign of his grave has been known  for many years.
One of William's  sons, Bryant, married Susannah Williamson, and they, along with seven children moved to  Jackson County, Mississippi, in 1812.  Records of land grants in North Carolina for John and William during the 1700's have been located.

A record of an Oath of Allegiance to the State of North Carolina and John, Bryant and William Ferrill signed the oath, as did many others during the period 1774-1804. We are attempting to find any record of service in the American Revolutionary Army on the part of William. There are indications, which we are attempting to confrim, that William''s son, Bryant,  served in the U.S. armed servcies during the War of 1812.  Records have been located that identify descendants of Bryant Ferrill in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World Wars I & II, the Korean convlict and the War in Iraq.  We are attempting to locate ancestors of Richard Ferrill, through the use of DNA analysis,  which we presume lived in Ireland.   As part of this effort, we seek a male whose surname is Ferrill.  Today, descendants of Richard Ferrill have been tracked acros the continent, as faw away as Alaska.
