Historical Marker

Information from Robert Abney
The Three-Chopped Way, and there were many called that, was the "Upper" of three routes from Fort Stoddert, AL (home of the US Govt's land office where Mississippi land patents were issued...before it was moved to Augusta, MS) to Natchez, MS. This east-west trail crossed the Old Jackson Military Road (yes, Gen. Andrew Jackson) that went from New Orleans to Muscle Shoals, AL. The old highway 15 above Bay Springs, to a point above Louin, generally follows the Old Jackson Military Road.

This MDAH marker is located one mile above Bay Springs on Hwy. 15N in Jasper Co., MS. There are several more old early 1800 trails in the county but none have a State Historical Marker.
