Mrs. Mayme Gibson, 57, of 1016 Hardy Ave., Gulfport, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. She was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Lincoln County, and had resided in Gulfport 23 years.
Mrs. Gibson formerly worked at Elmer’s Men’s Store in Gulfport for several years as a seamstress in the alterations department. For the past year, she had been employed in the same capacity at Sears Roebuck and Company in Gulfport. Mrs. Gibson had worked this past Saturday and became ill Sunday, being admitted to the hospital Sunday afternoon.
She was a member of Gulf Gardens Baptist Church of Gulfport.
The funeral will be at 8 a.m. Thursday from Lang Funeral Home, Inc., chapel in Gulfport, with the Rev. Dr. E. N. Wilkinson, interim pastor of Gulf Gardens Baptist Church, and the Rev. Eugene Hassler of Gulfport Assembly of God Church officiating.
The body will be taken to the Antioch Baptist Church near Brookhaven in Lincoln County, and will lie in state at the church until 2:30 p.m. service time. Interment will be in Antioch Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, J. Sidney Gibson; two daughters, Mrs. Ernest E. (Bernice) Cook and Mrs. Lloyd (Lula Faye) Watson; a son, Richard S. Gibson, all of Gulfport; three grandchildren; five brothers, Ben Townsend, Allie Townsend, Nattie Townsend, R. E. Townsend, all of Brookhaven, and Leon Townsend, Hammond, La.; five sisters, Mrs. Nell Garner, Gulfport; Mrs. Janie Kyzar, Mrs. Loise Smith, Mrs. Fannie Mae Russell and Mrs. Annie Belle Brister, all of Brookhaven.
