The body of Mrs. Mary Green, 75, who died last night in St. Joseph's Hospital in Memphis was brought here and interred in Magnolia Cemetery. She was a resident of the Poagville Community east of Coldwater, and had been ill about six weeks. Funeral services were conducted at the residence of her nephew, J. L. Strickland, by Rev. R. G. Moore. The deceased was a member of Antioch Church. She leaves many relatives in this section.
Mary E Green's daughter-in-law Willie Finch Green Harrison
wrote in her column, Cedar Ridge, the following account of Mary's death....
We were grieved and shocked last week to learn of the sudden death of Mother
Green at St. Joseph's Hospital in Memphis. She was carried there on
Friday and died the next Friday. She would have been 76 years old in August. She
was a widow and had made her home for several years with her nephew, Mr.
Grady Strickland. She has one daughter who lives in Memphis, Mrs. McMahon;
one grandson in Memphis, Cecil Greene, by her oldest son, J. W.
Greene, who was the first husband of your humble correspondent. She is the
last of the "old Stricklands."
