Death Comes to Prominent Phila. Resident Friday
Isaac Clinton Fortenberry, one of Philadelphia's most prominent
citizens passed away at his home on North Byrd Avenue Friday,
following an extended illness. Mr. Fortenberry who was 69 years of age
was a retired rural mail carrier. Mr. Fortenberry was a native of the
Edinburg community, where practically all of his life was spent. He
had served as a mail carrier for 39 years and upon his retirement he
and Mrs. Fortenberry moved to Philadelphia where they have since
resided. He was a member of the First Baptist church, this city and
also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Fortenberry always took an
active interest in the affairs of his church and community and did
this as long as health permitted. He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Mattie Beckham Fortenberry, a daughter, Mrs. Donald Cooper, wife of
Dr. Cooper, Jackson physician and a son, Troy Fortenberry, Edinburg.
He is survived by four grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Carl Karr,
Natchez, Mrs. Varman Stevens, Mrs. Irvin Kelly and Mrs. V. T. Beckham,
Sr.; four brothers, W. Y., Henry, Buford and Alvin Fortenberry.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Edinburg church
with Dr. Lavon Moore, Dr. Norris Q. Geer, Rev. J. L. Neill and Rev. J.
V. Cobb, officiating. Interment was in the Edinburg cemetery. Masonic
rites were given at the graveside and members of the lodge served as
pall bearers.

Life Long Resident Zion Comm. Dies
Funeral White Oak
Luther Lucas Barrett passed away at the Louisville hospital Monday
afternoon following an operation. He had been ill only a short time.
Mr. Barrett was a life long resident of Neshoba county and spent the
greater part of his life in the Zion community where he was a
successful farmer. He was married to the former Mollie Blount who
survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Ples, and Louie, Edinburg; one
daughter, Mrs. Jessie Ferguson, Edinburg; two brothers, Gene Barrett,
and Charlie Barrett. Funeral services were held at White Oak Baptist
church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Ethel Beall, officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pall bearers were Charles
Barrett, Earnest Agent, Lester Browning, J. C. Agent, Winford Pope,
and Cobert Agent.

Beloved Burnside Matron Dies, Rites Sunday Afternoon
Last rites were held Sunday afternoon from the Salem Baptist church,
for Mrs. Mary Frances Ellis, one of the most beloved matrons of the
Burnside community. Mrs. Ellis died after only a few days illness, she
suffering a stroke at her home and died in a local hospital, after
being rushed here for treatment. Mrs. Ellis who was the wife of Clay
Ellis was prior to her marriage, Mary Frances Beall, a member of one
of the county's most prominent families. She was born and reared in
the Burnside community and had spent her entire life there. Mrs. Ellis
was a devout member of the Salem Baptist church, and a regular
attendant, taking part in the affairs of her church and her passing is
greatly mourned by that group, as well as friends and relatives
throughout the country. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her husband, two
daughters, Mrs. Marvin Walker and Mrs. Thomon Jones, five
grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by a
sister Mrs. Otha Agent. Services were held from the church, with Rev's.
Walter McCraw and Ethel Beall, officiating. Interment was in the
church cemetery. Pall bearers were Marvin Walker, Jr., J. W. Pope,
Amon Tolbert, Paul Jones, J. W. Warren and John Henry Ford.

W. W. McCullough Dies At Canton Hospital Monday
William Walter McCullough, Canton, age 70, died at the King's
Daughters Hospital in Canton, December 31, after a long illness. Mr.
McCullough was a native of Neshoba County, and was a retired farmer.
He held membership in the North Mission Baptist Church. Services were
held at 1:00 p.m., January 2, from the Stallo Baptist Church, with
burial following in Cedarlawn cemetery. Reverend Rudolph Larson,
Canton assisted by Rev. Ethel Beall officiated. Survivors of Mr.
McCullough are his wife, Mrs. Mabel Neal, McCullough; three sons,
Claiborne McCullough, Houston, Texas; A/1c Byron W. McCullough, Korea;
and Jasper Talmadge McCullough, Canton. Other survivors are two
daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Ward, Stallo, Mrs. Kenneth Agent, of Texas and
eight grandchildren. Daws Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Services for A. T. Rainey At Mars Hill
Andrew Thomas Rainey, Route 1, Philadelphia, age 82, died at his home
in the East Neshoba Community on December 26, after an illness of long
duration. He was a native of Kemper County, but had been a farmer in
the East Neshoba Community for some years. Mr. Rainey was a Methodist,
holding membership in the Mars Hill Methodist church. Funeral services
were conducted December 28, at 10:00 a.m. from the Mars Hill Methodist
Church, with Rev. E. W. Thornton officiating. He is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Minnie Lee Mars Rainey, and one son, Carl Rainey. One
daughter also survives, Miss Mary Lee Rainey, as well as two
grandchildren; two brothers, J. A. and Will Rainey, and one sister,
Mrs. Will Phillips. Pallbearers were: Howard Harbour, Johnnie
Williamson, L. J. Warren, H. F. Lowry, E. E. Lowry, Curtis McDaniels,
Andrew Williamson and Curtis McKee. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
