Wedgeworth Men in the Civil War

J. W. Wedgeworth is Joel Walker Wedgeworth, he was discharged from the 5th Reg. after 2 mos. because he was 47 yrs old. I have a copy of his discharge notice.

When the 35th Reg. was formed Joel Walker Wedgeworth went and Re-enlisted into the 35th Reg. Co. E. I have copies of his muster rolls for both Services. J. W. Was married to Margaret Smith from Greene Co. AL.

Mr. J. W. Wedgeworth is buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Daleville, Lauderdale Co., MS. As of last year Mr. Wedgeworth does not have a CSA headstone.

His son H. J. Wedgeworth, Howell Joel Wedgeworth, is buried at Hester Cemetery, House, Neshoba Co., MS. H. J. does have a CSA headstone. H. J., Howell Joel Wedgeworth served 5th Reg. Co. K , in the Battle of Franklin, TN and was captured in the last part of the battle. He served his last 6 months as a POW in the Union Camp Douglas, IL Prison camp. H. J. Served in the 5th Reg. Inf. for his entire service in the War.

Mr. H. J., (Howell Joel), Wedgeworth came home from the war and raised his family in Neshoba Co., House, MS. He was married to Martha Morrow. 

His brother, Lankford Harris Wedgeworth born 12- 8-1821, Died March 21, 1888 Lauderdale, MS buried Lockhart Methodist Ch. was in the 35th MS, Co. E.
