I am looking for a connection with the PICKLE family of LeFlore County, Oklahoma to the PICKLE family in Monroe Co. MS. My grandfather, SAM PICKLE b. 3 March 1892 d. March 1979 m. 24 Sept 1911 to STELLA HEMPHILL b. 1893 d. 1974. SAM'S father was WES G. PICKLE and it is believed that he moved to Oklahoma from Monroe County, MS. His family may have moved to Monroe County around 1840. The father of WES G. PICKLE may be ROBERT PICKLE. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching the history of the Suggs Pottery, operating near Smithville MS, ca. 1890-1930. One of the potters was a W.D.(Billy) Suggs. The family is said to have originally come to the US from Germany, settled in Central Tennessee and then moved to Monroe County. Would appreciate any info on either the pottery and/or the family, plus would like to hear from anyone with pottery made at the shop. Usual mark is a blue oval on the side of churns or pitchers with "W.D.Suggs Smithville Miss. Thanks./

Looking for information on Henry G. and Louisa Thompson. As my research led me backwards through Scott County Arkansas in 1870 & 1880, through Red River County Texas in 1860 and now into Monroe County MS. I found 3 Henry Thompsons in the 1850 MS index. One lived in MON. (either Monroe or Montgomery MS- Only Monroe was listed). They had children Francis (F. born 1848)and William (M. born 1850). Possibly Henry's father was William Thompson and may have had a brother named James William who had a son Stephen that was born in Pontotoc MS in 1860. Any help will be appreciated.

Looking for descendants of Waldemar, Randolph James, and Henry Clay MURFF of Monroe County. Waldemar MURFF came to Monroe about 1850 with son Randolph "Randall" (b. 1845), other children, brothers, other family and neighbors of Laurens Co., SC. Hi, We are currently in the process of trying to find the gravesite of my husband's great-great-great grandfather, William Walter Bagby. Born July 24, 1824, Died July 7, 1862. "Buried near Okolona, in Monroe County, MS" Family lore has it that Mr. Bagby was in the Kentucky Orphan Brigade, was injured at the Battle of Shiloh, and made it as far south as the area "near Okolona" before his condition prevented him retreating further South. The story goes, that he was taken in by two maiden sisters, who then buried him in the family cemetery. Unfortunately, the name of the kind family has been lost, as has the location of his gravesite. Further complicating matters is that Okolona is in Chickasaw County, not Monroe, but since it is close to the county line, I think the family may have lived near the northwestern edge of Monroe County. My father-in-law says a picture was made of Mr. Bagby's grave in the 1940's by his brother-in-law, who found the gravesite while on a military leave. Unfortunately, again, the picture is lost, and no one is alive who remembers anything else about the story.Thought maybe someone came across an unexpected "Bagby" in their cemetery. I am looking for information on the Abner SIKES/SYKES family who were in the 1860 census of Monroe Co. MS. Abner was born about 1830 in either Greene or Pickens Co. AL. He was the son of John SIKES, born 1797 in GA. The 1860 census showed Abner, 30; Caroline, 27; John W. 11; Nancy 9; James R. 7; and Thomas 3. Abner's brother James SIKES and his wife Luda C. lived nearby in that same census. Records show that Abner died of wounds received in the Civil War. I would appreciate any information on this SIKES family.

Searching for parents of George Washington Hairgrove who married Sarah Jane (Sally) Nash in Aberdeen, Monroe Mississippi Oct 22, 1843. They migrated to Texas with the Harbour family,around 1859 & settled in the Lavaca Co. area. It is believed he was born in Georgia and was a blacksmith. Sarah Jane was born in Mississippi and was half Cherokee Indian.

I am seeking ances/sibs of JESSE BUNYON SIMS born 3July 1889 in Amory , Monroe Co. MS he moved to Quincy and married GEORGIA MAE SPEARS b.9April 1889 in Quincy, Monroe Co. MS . They had at least one child born there my grandfather Lucien Jerome Sims, born 16 Jun 1906 and later removed to Deport Lamar Co. TX where they were farmers until the end of the Great Depression when the enire family moved to the Sunnyvale,Santa Clara Co. CA area.
Jesse was an accomplishe muscian who even made his own banjo once using a tire iron and two steel pie plates, (much to "Georgie's " shagrin.) Together they ran a sucessful and profitable fruit stand in Sunnyvale, CA. Jesse passed away in the late 40s and georgia in the mid 50s. They had 3 sons ( Lucien or "Jack" Charles and "Tex" )and and a daughter(Eunice) (that I know of)all resided in Ca until their deaths, all but Charles had children . All the boys were fine Country and Western muscians.
I am certain Jesse had brothers and sisters and some one must know the roots of this family. I would appreciate any help at all. Thank You , Pamela Latimer Holden

BUSH, John Francis, married Mary Jane PURSER in Monroe County area. My grandfather, Clarence E. Bush, was born in Aberdeen. Both John Francis and Clarence moved to Kemper County. Albert Hill Pressley married Edith Otheal Veazey March 19, 1949. Living in Gary IN in 1954. Edith died Jan 26, 1954 in auto accident in Jackson TN. Albert died a few days later, when? He is buried somewhere between Columbus and Aberdeen, where? Who were his parents?

Seeking information about WHITE family buried in Greenbrier Cemetery near Becker MS. Jim Leonard White b. 1903 d. 1976; Sally White b. 1906 d. 1976; Hattie Bell White b. 1905 d. 1935. Their parents are Pleas David (son of Pleasant and Nancy Catherine White of Lamar Co. AL) and Pink Nichols White (daughter of Green Jackson and Ruth Duncan Nichols) are also buried there.

Annie Missouri Rodwell, b.Oct 15, 1847 ABERDEEN, MS Does any of this strike a bell with anyone? My ggg grandparents, Charles Campbell Calhoun and Annie Missouri Rodwell lived in St. Louis a while; Charles made his money from steamboating along the Mississippi (my grandmother also mentioned the Pearl and the Yazoo). He was born in Wheeling, Virginia (now WVA) c. 1835. His parents, possibly of Virginia, or Tennessee, are Charles Calhoun, b. 1799 d. 1872, and Rose Jane CAMPBELL, b. 1799 d.1873. He died in VICKSBURG, MS, July 1, 1914. Some of the Calhoun children lived in MS, and then some in Alabama (Birmingham area). Their children--one of which was Emmett Rodwell Calhoun (married Mary Lee BLAKE of South Carolina)-newspaper proofreader and oftimes columnist of "Recollections" of bygone era and life along the Mississippi (publ. 1941-2). Another child, girl, who remained in MS, but I know nothing else about her, except she was named EFFIE OFTEN Calhoun-- named herself for a steamboat passing down the Miss. Annie Missouri died of tuberculosis Sep 1, 1879, in GREENVILLE, MS. Annie's parents were Thomas Henry Rodwell (b. Mar 15, 1826, d.Jun 14, 1890) and Ann E. Gilder (Lyons) b. Jan 9, 1830, died Jul 29, 1900. She was of Choctaw, and French(?), blood-- Any possible connection or interest is MUCH appreciated--Thank you!

BUSH, John Francis, m. Mary Jane PURSER. I am searching for ancesters of my Bush family. My grandfather, Clarence E. Bush, was born in Monroe County. John Francis Bush was his father. I am also searching for information on John Francis Bush's brother and his childred who lived in Aberdeen, MS. This brother had six children, one of whom was Guy BUSH, who played major league baseball for the Chicago Cubs. Guy BUSH is in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, but I can find no genealogical information on him or his family. Help would be much appreciated.
