I as the legally authorized agent of the parties desire to say to you please send them to me.

Personally appeared before me B. M. Ellzey, clerk of the probate Court of said county, James Ellzey who being duly sworn according to law, deposes, and says that he is the father of Elisha H. Ellzey, deceased, who is listed as a private in Company G, Capt. H. R. Millers, now commanded by Capt. Thos? J. Crawford, 2nd Regiment Mississippi Volunteers Infantry, on the 30th day of April 1861, and was killed at the Battle of Manases [Manassas] on the 29th day of August 1862, that said deceased left neither wife or children, never having been married and that he the said James Ellzey as his father is entitled under the law to receive any arrearages of pay, bounty or commutation for clothing that may be due by the Confederate States to said deceased for his services as a private of aforesaid.
 
Also personally appeared R. W. Bell whom I certify to be a credible witness, and makes with that the statement as above made & sworn to by James Ellzey, are true.

I certify, that the within named Elisha H. Ellzey late a private of Captain T. J. Crawford’s Company G of the Second Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers, born in Pontotoc County in the State of Mississippi aged twenty years, Six feet one inch high, fair complexion, blue eyes light hair and by occupation when enlisted a Farmer, was enlisted by Captain Hugh R. Miller at Pontotoc Miss. on the 30th day of April 1861, to serve one year, and was killed in the battle of Manassas on the 29th day of August 1862.
 
Sid Ellzey was possessed of no effects. He was last paid by Major G. W. Jones to include the 30th day of April 1862, and had pay due from that date to the date of his death.
 
There is due to him Fifty dollars bounty for enlisting. There is due to him Twenty-five dollars commutation for six months clothing.
 
He is indebted to the Confederate State Twenty five & 12/100 dollars on account of clothing drawn.
 
Given in duplicate at Camp near Richmond Virginia this 27th day of November 1862.

The records show that Elisha H. (also shown as Elijah) Ellzey, private, Captain Hugh R. Miller’s Company, which subsequently became Company G, 2d Regiment Mississippi Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted 30 April 1861 at Pontotoc, Mississippi. His age at enlistment is shown as 18years, and his place of birth as Pontotoc County, Mississippi. He was killed 29 July (also shown as 29 August) 1862 in the battle of Manassas. The name of his father is shown as James Ellzey.
