BURKETT FAMILY STAGES REUNION

Scores Attend Annual Gathering in Jeff Davis County

PRENTISS, Aug, 22 - The children, nieces and nephews of the A. J. Burkett family, one of the pioneers in this county, gathered at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Alice Bass, Bassfield, in a great family reunion. The surviving children of this once large family are: J. C. Burkett, Prentiss, former circuit clerk of this county; Mrs. Alice Bass, Bassfield; Mrs. Walter Stringer, Columbia; Mrs. I. O. Magee, Washington, D. C.; Dr. Claude Bennett, Hattiesburg, former president State Teachers' college, who is a nephew, was present.

An old-fashioned picnic dinner was spread on three tables in the halls of the Bass home and the day spent in recounting reminiscences of the days gone. S. J. Harper, 94 years of age, oldest man in south Mississippi, distinguished Confederate veteran, enjoyed a special seat of honor at the table.

C.; Fred, Clyde and Luther Burkett, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Burkett, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Burkett and daughter, Miss Judene, sons, Claude and William; Mrs. Mattie Bass Burkett, all of Bass- field; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bennett and daughters, Misses Margaret, Nan, Grace and Mary, Hattiesburg; Miss Carrie Bennett, Lauderdale; Mrs. R. R. Hudson and R. R. Hudson, Jr., Sumrall; Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Bass and Bob, Jr., Moselle; Mrs. Ada Sullivan Bass and children, Burkett, James, Nell and Betty; Miss Esther Sinclair, B. G. Burkett, Bassfield; Mrs. Lizzie Burkett Atwood, Oakvale; Mrs. Mary Burkett Bennett, Columbia; Mrs. Julius Holland, S. J.
