Ruff, Milton Augustus ~ Obituary

[Note: This obit is from an Oklahoma City newspaper. M.A. Ruff died Oct. 22, 1948. He was the oldest son of Robert Henry and Sarah Ann Vaughn Ruff. He was born Oct. 14, 1871 in Calhoun County:]

M.A. Ruff Dies While Visiting Daughter Here (Oklahoma City, OK)
Milton Augustus Ruff, 77, Celeste, Texas, died of heart failure at 3:55 a.m. Friday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.H. Tatum, 4015 South Hudson. He had been visiting in Oklahoma City for one month. Born in Calhoun, Miss., he had been a resident of Celeste since 1917. He was a retired farmer.

Ruff was a member of the First Baptist Church of Celeste.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Tatum, Mrs. R.L. Horton, Sherman, Texas, and Mrs. Jerre Deason, Glen Rose, Texas: a son, Wylie Ruff, 512 SW 32: three sisters, Mrs. Zula Shelton, and Mrs. Mattie Brownfield, both of Bakersfield, Calif. And Mrs. Hessie Mulkey, Celeste; a brother, Wilburn Ruff, Bonham, Fannin County, Texas; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be in Greenville, Texas, with burial in Leonard, Texas. Local arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill funeral home.

 Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Cooper Funeral Home in Bonham for Wilburn Lee Ruff, 82, who died Friday, June 24, 1966, in a Bonham hospital. The Rev. R.L. Cates of Bonham and Mr. Lewis Fullerton of Leonard officiated. Burial was in Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham with Veernon Terry, Orville Spears, O.H. Blackshear, R.C. Gilliam, Hamp Murray and Sam Burnett serving as pallbearers.

A member of the Baptist Church, Mr. Ruff was born April 18, 1884, in Coffeeville, Miss. He married Miss Maggie Rosson at Wolfe City in 1911.

The survivors are his widow of the home in Bonham; four sons, Orville Ruff, Mesquite, George Ruff of Leonard, Jack Ruff of Celeste, and Billy Ruff of Denison; four daughters, Mrs. Audrey Wilker of Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. Johnny Harrell of Wolfe City, Mrs. Tommy Beard of Pulaski, Tenn, and Lula Faye Elliott of Mesquite; three sisters, Mrs. Hessie Mulkey of Celeste, Mrs. Matie Brownfield of Bonham, and Mrs. Zula Shelton of Richmond, Calif., 28 grandchildren and 17 great grand children.
